Abide by and enforce all university policies and procedures, residence hall policies, and local, state, and federal laws as outlined in the Code of Student Conduct, the Residence Hall Handbook, and the Residence Hall Staff Manual(s).Assist, and support, the Department of Residence Life and Housing with the departmental initiatives and events (identified required work dates, co-curricular programs/activities, committees, staff selection, etc.).Establish and maintain a cohesive community whose members share personal responsibility for the development of community standards and appropriate student conduct.Build a community environment on the floor based on respect, which allows all residents to feel safe, comfortable, and included.Participate in development and advising of floor/hall activities, hall government, and encourage students to become active participants.Establish a living-learning environment on the floor and within the hall through role modeling and involvement.Create positive, strong relationships, provide resources, build community, and engage residents through frequent interactions.Major Areas of Responsibility: Community Building Other duties may be assigned to RAs by their building supervisor. The following enumerated responsibilities comprise the significant duties assigned to RAs. The RA must project a sense of care and concern for each resident. RAs report directly to their Residence Life Coordinators (RLCs) and are responsible for establishing and maintaining an atmosphere which will promote the educational, social, cultural and personal development of residents. The resident assistant (RA) staff are paraprofessional graduate and undergraduate members of the Department of Residence Life and Housing.
